We Were Here
Illustrated zine series
In 2019, I started photographing and illustrating interesting signs I found around town. The initial idea came after seeing a Canadian Tire sign painted black as a way to obscure the brand for the now-closed store. Something was interesting about the way the form remained. As a branding designer, I am tasked with creating work that is supposed to be timeless and long-lasting, but one day, we’ll leave behind these bizarre legacies of capitalism and advertising. These illustrations became a way of imagining what our world could look like and the messages we leave behind.

The illustrations were turned into screen prints and compiled into newspaper style zinse, of which there were two volumes. These zines were sold around Edmonton at craft fairs and book stores.
